Australian Citizens welcomed

THE Yarriambiack Shire Council has congratulated four members of the community for receiving their Australian Citizenship.

Mayor Graeme Massey alongside fellow councillors Deputy Mayor Shane Roberts, Cr Jean Wise, Cr Kylie Zanker and Chief Executive Officer Jessie Holmes welcomed the new citizens into the Yarriambiack community.

Community members may recognise Warracknabeal residents Sheena Paul, John Promod and their son Edwin John.

The family have been in the Warracknabeal Community for around six and a half years.

Ms Paul is a practicing nurse at Rural Northwest Health, while Mr Promod is a cook at the Werrigar Service Station.

Their son Edwin studies at Warracknabeal Secondary College.

Moving here from Sydney, Ms Paul said the country is a peaceful comparison.

“It’s calm and quiet and the people are lovely, we are really proud to become Australian. We are privileged to live and work in Australia. It’s a beautiful and peaceful country,” Ms Paul said.

The family moved to Warracknabeal as part of Ms Paul’s visa conditions through her sponsorship.

The family originally comes from Southern India In Kerala.

Mariam Chappo moved to Hopetoun about eight years ago; she was also awarded her citizenship on Wednesday.

Mrs Chappo grew up in Lebanon, before moving to Australia.

Her partner Zieni said they are living a fulfilling life up in Hopetoun.

Mr Chappo was living in Melbourne before moving out to the country.

“It’s a hard life in Melbourne, I am happy I moved out to the Coutnry. I love country people,” Mr Chappo said.
