40 years of unity
The 40th anniversary of the Southern Mallee Co-Operative Parish occurs this year: 1986-2026.

With the recent local towns reunion as reported in the Hopetoun Courier on March 5, gathering together is in the air.
And we are aware of how fast time goes by.
Another special gathering of locals and returnees is being held on Sunday, March 22, at 10.30am in the church in King Street, Rainbow, to give thanks for the 40th Anniversary of the Southern Mallee Co-Operative Parish.
On February 16, 1986, the Southern Mallee Co-Operative Parish came into being, with the joining of the Baptist and Uniting Churches in Rainbow and Hopetoun.
Initiated by Rev Garry Lock of the Baptist Union and Uniting Church Minister, Rev Brian Morgan as they passed each other on the road, the Church Members came together to realise a dream that we are one faith, one church.
And the Southern Mallee Co-operative Parish was born.
To recognise this special milestone, the Rainbow and Hopetoun congregations will join together for a service of worship at the Rainbow Church, 222 King Street, Rainbow.
This will be followed by a shared luncheon, stories and sharing of milestones and memories.
Founding ministers, Garry Lock and Brian Morgan, will return, as will Baptist Leaders, Rev Ken Westwood and Pastor Arthur Broughton.
Mrs Lois Grigg, an original member from Hopetoun hopes to attend.
A number of current members of the congregations were there ‘in the beginning.’
As well as various contributions in the service, it is hoped that people will have stories to share over lunch.
There are many people who attended the SMCP over the last 40 years and it is hoped that as many as possible will return for this joyous occasion.
