A new mill for a new hobby
A new Durston rolling mill at the Horsham Lapidary Club will allow more people to participate in the fine art of silversmithing.
Horsham Rural City Council contributed $4100 to the purchase of the mill through their Community Grants program.
The mill allows people with reduced mobility access to toll metal into different types of sheets and wires while minimising the effort required to turn a crank.
The equipment is one less barrier of entry for those residents looking to explore a new hobby, as the club provides workshops in silversmithing, enamelling and cabbing.
Horsham Lapidary Club member Selena Smith said the mill was supposed to upgraded.
“The club has needed a mill upgrade for many years now,” she said.
“We are thankful for the grant to finally make it happen.”
The council allocates funding to support community and sporting groups through its grants program each year.
