Action aplenty at Blue Ribbon Raceway
One big anniversary and a couple of massive titles. It's all go at Blue Ribbon Raceway this Saturday and Sunday.
While the Victorian street stock title was originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Speedway Sedans Victoria announced earlier this week that, due to difficulties with programming, it would now be held on only day one of racing.
More than 50 cars have nominated for the event, including Dale Morrison, Mick Dann and Morris Ahearn, all of whom have been featured in the lead-up to the event in The Wimmera Mail-TImes.
Other drivers include Leigh Gooding, an aggressive but clean driver; Matt Nelson, who consistently places on the podium across the different classes he races; and racing veteran Mick Clark, whose driving style is suited well to the Blue Ribbon track.
And then, of course, there's Nathan Thorne, who's not only the current title holder for the host state but also the current Australian champion and Northern Territory Number one.
But the crowning of the Victorian street stock champion, whether it be Thorne defending his title successfully, another past winner or a first-time successor, is just one of a couple of titles being run, and by the end of Saturday the best driver in 1200cc junior sedans for Victoria will also be decided.
Close to 20 nominations have been received and the action is set to be hot on track as these drivers go head-to-head.
Horsham will be well represented in the class, with the HO51 of Archie Thomas, HO86 of Maxwell Hughes and HO95 of Oliver Mills all vying for success.
Both events form part of Blue Ribbon Raceway's 30th anniversary celebrations and other classes running Saturday and Sunday include production sedans, while the wingless sprint super series will also be battled out.
The flag drops on racing at 2pm on Saturday and action is on track from 11am on Sunday.
