Action-packed round six
Round six of the Horsham Badminton Association’s Winter Teams Competition was full of action on Monday, June 1, at the Horsham College gymnasium on Baillie Street.
A GRADE
- Hufflepuff Vs Ravenclaw
Ranvenclaw outclassed Hufflepuff in an easy match of Round 6.
Lakshdeep Chawla won three doubles for his team alongside Clayton Duxorth, Sue Goudie and Joel Beggs.
Ranvenclaw won six out of the first eight doubles sets to claim the victory.
Hufflepuff’s Harshdeep Singh won two doubles sets and the sole single set against Luke Dunn by 21-9 and 21-15.
RESULT: Ravenclaw defeated Hufflepuff by 6 sets to 4, 13 games to 11 and 450 to 445 total points.
- Slytherin Vs Hogwarts
Hogwarts was too strong, winning by four sets.
Shabaz Noman won three doubles sets for his team.
He started strong alongside Lachlan Walker and won the second doubles set by 21-14, 17-21 and 19-21, after his teammates lost the opening set of the match.
He won the next two sets with Hima Mekala and Brendan Nitschke.
Slytherin’s Ben Sawyer was the only performer from their side.
He won two doubles sets and a single set against Ishan Thomas by 21-17 and 21-15.
RESULT: Hogwarts defeated Slytherin by 7 sets to 3, 14 games to 10 and 458 to 411 total points.
B GRADE
- Aladdin Vs Rapunzel
Aladdin won a one-sided match against Rapunzel in Round 6.
Aden Merrett was a star for his side, winning two doubles and a single set for Aladdin.
He won the singles set against Helen Francisco by 9-15, 15-13 and 15-11.
Jenny and Stacey also played their role in the team’s win.
Dani Williams won two doubles sets for her team but end up on the losing side on Monday night.
RESULT: Aladdin defeated Rapunzel by 7 sets to 3, 16 games to 9 and 353 to 325 total points.
- Cinderella Vs Tarzan
The other B Grade court witnessed another one-sided game, with Cinderella claiming an easy victory.
Tarzan’s Harry Foster and Sam Nurse started well by winning the opening doubles set, but their next win came after five sets, which was too late for the team.
Lahiru Nanayakkara won three doubles sets for his team.
His wins come alongside different teammates, including Anna, Carolyn Beggs and Jackson.
Carolyn lost the singles set against Harry Foster of Tarzan by 13-15 and 11-15.
RESULT: Cinderella defeated Tarzan by 7 sets to 3, 14 games to 10 and 311 to 300 total points.
