For many, Christmas is a special time with family and friends, but for the Matuschka's this festive season will be a little more exciting and significant than last year.

Dad Lucas and Mum Elizabeth will celebrate their first Christmas with daughter Adelaide, who will be six months on Christmas Eve.

The family, based in Rainbow, will be familiar to many, with Mr Matuschka a minister at the local parish.

Despite both being from Tasmania and growing up in the suburbs, Mrs Matuschka said they have come to realise they are both country folk at heart.

Born in Horsham in June, Adelaide was not only awaited, but also prayed for, for a long time.

"Lucas and I have been married for 12 years, but saw our first fertility specialist eight years ago to start getting help to have a baby," Mrs Matuschka said.

"I have always wanted to be a mum and was delighted when I finally found out I was pregnant."

The family will celebrate Christmas with their church congregations - Hopetoun, Pella and Rainbow.

"As a family, it will be quiet, just the three of us with a traditional roast Christmas lunch or dinner and probably with mashed carrot or pumpkin for Adelaide," Mrs Matuschka said.
