Auxiliary gifts lifesaving AEDs

Warracknabeal's Country Women's Association (CWA), Cemetery Trust and the Warracknabeal Caravan Park are the grateful recipients of brand new automated external defibrillators (AED) and cases from Warracknabeal's Ambulance Auxiliary.

The CWA's new AED will be located inside their clubrooms, and will only be accessible during open hours, but the ones at the cemetery and the caravan park will be available to the community 24/7.

"This will help Warracknabeal become a heart safe community," Auxiliary treasurer Sue Watts said.

"A lot of times our ambulance isn't always available in town because the area we cover is so large."

Council mayor Kylie Zanker accepted the Caravan Park's AED and case on behalf of the council, and encouraged those who have an AED to register it straightaway.

AED registration with Ambulance Victoria allows critical lifesaving information to be shared with Triple Zero Victoria call takers, who can inform callers during an emergency of the AED availability and location details.

"They really need to be registered," Ms Watts said.

"People need to know where they are, just in case they're needed."

Registration with Ambulance Victoria is processed online at registermyaed.ambulance.vic.gov.au

Community members with an AED will need to create an account and provide their name, address and contact details.

"If you need help registering your AED online, please reach out to council and we can help you," Cr Zanker said.

Volunteers trained and willing to use AEDs and give aid in an emergency situation should also register for the GoodSAM app through Ambulance Victoria, which alerts you if an emergency situation occurs nearby.
