Avian flu detections increase
CONCERNS about the incursion of H5N1 avian influenza into Australia – and especially into increasing parts of Victoria – have already forced the cancellation of a local poultry club show and required the vigilance of egg and bird meat farms across the state.

Some free-range poultry farms have said the government’s housing requirements may not be practical for them. Bird flu is not a food safety risk for chicken meat and eggs if they are handled and cooked correctly.
