Fellow Natimuk gymnast Edward Jones also participated, with Jones competing in the level seven classification and Bailey in the level eight.

Bailey and Jones were selected to represent Victoria at the championships after impressing at numerous meets earlier in the year, including the state championships.

Bailey commenced his competition in the team event, where his Victorian team came third, finishing behind Queensland and New South Wales.

Following the team competition, Bailey competed in the individual events, placing third in the vault to claim his second bronze medal.

In the level seven competition, Jones’s Victorian team just missed out on a medal, ending up fourth.

Against more than 40 competitors in the individual events, Jones performed admirably, including securing a ninth-placed finish in the vault and 12th on the floor.

Natimuk and District Gymnastics Club coach Lynette Morrow travelled with the boys and said she was proud of the performances from the pair.

“We’re still on cloud nine for Remi,” Morrow said.

“Both boys competed so well.

“It’s a huge step up, and for their first experience at nationals they both held themselves really well.

“For Remi, I think it only hit him the next day when the exhaustion level hit.

“Edward, day one wasn’t clean competition for him, but the experience of day one and the training in the middle helped him perform a lot better on day two.”

Both boys will have a well-earned rest after a long season, with the possibility of moving up in classification in the future.

“They'll have a couple of weeks off to recuperate and just let their bodies relax a little bit,” Morrow said.

“The focus will be on maintaining what we've got, improving, adding some more difficulty and trying to look at another level.”
