Beulah too strong for Hopetoun in final round

Hopetoun finished the North Wimmera Division One lawn bowls weekend pennant season in seventh place after suffering a 2-14 (58-85) loss to Beulah in the final round on Saturday, February 7.

Hopetoun hosted Beulah in the final round of the North Wimmera Bowls Division One weekend pennant competition. Hopetoun were defeated by the visitors 2-14 (58-85).

Playing at Hopetoun, the rink one team of T Goodwin, G Cox, W Gould and R Huf were defeated by Beulah’s D Sanford, J Moore, E Bell and P Hallam 13-36. 

In rink two, S Michell, T Landrigan, M Proposch and M Reid defeated L Bevan, G Turnbull, J Roll and R Williams 26-22. 

The team of D Watson, M Demedici, K Robins and D Burdett lost rink three 19-27 to Beulah’s G Muller, R Humphries, A Edmonds and C Forsyth. 

In other round 14 results, Warracknabeal defeated Murtoa 16-0 (83-55) to finish the regular season undefeated, Rainbow was defeated by Rupanyup 2-14 (53-87), and Warracknabeal Golf Blue was defeated by Warracknabeal Golf White 2-14 (67-90).

The conclusion of the home and away season saw Warracknabeal top the ladder with 206 points (+461 score differential), with Warracknabeal Golf White (16, +181), Beulah (140, +216) and Rupanyup (132, +127) rounding out the top four. 

Murtoa finished the season in fifth (86, -61), Rainbow finished sixth (64, -161), while Hopetoun (63, -267) and Warracknabeal Golf Blue (40, -496) finished in seventh and eighth, respectively.

Warracknabeal will play Warracknabeal Golf White this Saturday for a spot in the grand final, while Beulah hosts Rupanyup for a chance to progress to the preliminary final. 

In Division Two, Hopetoun forfeited its match against Warracknabeal, Beulah defeated Brim 16-0 (87-58), and Murtoa defeated Minyip 12-4 (86-73).

Warracknabeal (198 points, +469 differential) finished first on the ladder following an undefeated regular season, while Beulah (151, +101), Minyip (126, +119) and Murtoa (86, -168) finished second, third and fourth, respectively. 

Brim finished in fifth (84, -101), while Hopetoun (27, -420) rounded out the competition ladder. 

Warracknabeal will play Beulah this Saturday for a place in the Division Two grand final, while Minyip goes against Murtoa as the two sides battle to proceed to the preliminary final.
