Bombers stop Swifts, Hobbs boots six
Noradjuha Quantong’s senior football side overcame an impressive second quarter from the Swifts to win their round 12 clash on Saturday, kicking 14.12 (96) to 7.6 (48).
At Stawell, the Bombers got off to a strong start, kicking the opening four goals of the game before Justin Puruntatameri kicked the Swifts’ first goal just before the first break, the Bombers taking a 27-7 lead.
An improved performance at the contest saw the Baggies create and convert more opportunities, with Cam Wickham’s second goal of the game giving them a brief lead late in the second quarter.
But Judah Hobbs’ fourth goal, as well as an impressive set shot goal by Jason Kerr from the right forward pocket, ensured the visitors retook the lead and entered halftime up 49-38.
Noradjuha Quantong maintained the momentum to kick the opening two goals of the second half, eventually taking a 75-46 lead at three-quarter time.
The Bombers kept control of the game in the final term, keeping the Baggies goalless while adding three more of their own to finish with the 48-point victory.
Judah Hobbs had an impressive game up forward for the Bombers, kicking six goals, while Dylan Shelley kicked two of his own.
Riley Dunlop, Declan Phylkand and Jack Vague had strong games in the midfield for the winning side, while Nigel Kelly, Wade Francis and Brandon Ellis had impressive games down back.
Cam Wickham led the Swifts on the scoreboard with his two goals, while Ben Martin, Daniel Quinn, Scott Carey, Nicholas Pickering and Jack Champion were among the team’s best in the loss.
