Car Touble

My husband doesn’t complain. Much. He has me for a wife, so life must be pretty sweet right?

Yolande Grosser openly admits to her 'mechanical cluelessness'.

Please don’t ask him.

The thing is, apart from the new leather couch that I chose being too cold to sit on, and his green beans being a bit too crunchy for his liking sometimes, he is very easy to please.

There is one responsibility that makes him fairly cranky though – fixing cars.

An aircraft technician by trade, Kym spent his RAAF career making the P-3 Orions and F-111 jets fly, but obviously, when he married me, he got the whole package, including my old bomb of a car and my mechanical cluelessness.

Now he has three grown daughters who also fly around the countryside in cars which they have no clue how to maintain or fix.

Therefore, the demand for his services is quite relentless.

Currently my car is rudely displaying the message, “Top up coolant. Refer Owner’s Manual”.

My car is at least third hand, but I think I have an owner’s manual somewhere I could consult?

Just kidding – Kym will have to sort this out for me! Yasinta’s car has such a bad oil leak at present that it is off the road while Kym searches online for a new engine he can drop in.

Luckily, we have our experienced people mover for her to borrow to get her from café to shopping centre in the meantime…I mean from work to study.

We bought Tiani’s darling little white car from a friend, so it runs like a dream and looks brand new.

For some inexplicable reason a couple of the tyres have a slow leak, setting off her sensors periodically.

After consulting with her dad, Tiani has developed a complicated relationship with the air hose as she doesn’t want to blow anything up but needs to get around.

Our eldest daughter Katianna, at the age of 23, has been through the most difficult history of vehicle ownership and headaches for her dad.

Her gorgeous little yellow Mini is in bits in the back shed after a monumental breakdown on the highway home a couple of years ago.

Her replacement run around was written off before Christmas last year when someone rearended her in the city.

People mover power got her through that time too – and she said it wasn’t too bad being able to take six of her closest friends everywhere with her if she liked.

Thank goodness this very grown-up young lady has decided to give her dad a break by buying a brand-new car.

She got the whole big red bow experience earlier this year as she signed the paperwork and drove her gorgeous red number out of the showroom and up the highway back to the city.

Her new car has cameras everywhere, all the right connections for her music and phone calls, a fabulous looking interior and exterior, and most importantly, a really wonderful warranty, care and maintenance program overseen by the manufacturer.

Thank you!
