Cat management strategy launched
The first cat management strategy has been launched in Victoria, aimed at improving the health and welfare of the domestic species and protecting animals in the wild.

Minister for Agriculture Ros Spence and Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos launched the 10-year cat management strategy last week.
It is intended to improve education programs and responsible ownership and increase desexing rates.
It will also address the challenges of cats that are either not owned or semi-owned, which make up most of the cat intake at shelters, promoting full responsible ownership of them.
Ms Spence said it was known how much Victorians loved their cats as pets.
"This strategy will help promote responsible cat ownership while also protecting our environment and native wildlife from cats," she said.
“This is Victoria’s first ever cat management strategy, designed to improve the welfare of our domestic cat population while reducing the burden on rescue shelters and finding wild cats a new safe home.”
