Celebrating grandparents and special friends day
St Joseph's School community came together last week to celebrate Grandparents and Special Friends Day with a joyful morning of prayer, connection and celebration, honouring the special role grandparents and significant adults play in the lives of their students.
The celebration began with a liturgy, where students, staff, grandparents and special friends gathered in prayer.
The liturgy was especially meaningful as it was linked to the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus, reminding us of the important place grandparents hold in passing on faith, love and wisdom through the generations.
Students from every year level participated in the liturgy, helping to lead prayers, readings and reflections.
A beautiful prayer space was created with symbols representing the special moments
students share with their grandparents and special friends.
These included books for stories read together, gardening tools, cookbooks, games and craft items, each symbolising the treasured memories and everyday experiences that strengthen family bonds.
Following the liturgy, grandparents and special friends were warmly welcomed into classrooms, where students proudly shared their learning, classroom activities and school experiences.
The visits provided wonderful opportunities for conversations, laughter and creating new memories together.
The morning concluded with a relaxed morning tea, where families, guests and staff enjoyed spending time together while celebrating the invaluable contribution grandparents and special friends make to the lives of the students and wider school community.
The celebration was a heartfelt reminder that the love, guidance and wisdom shared by grandparents and special friends enrich the lives of children and help nurture strong, faith-filled relationships.
