Central Park continue undefeated run

Central Park’s unbeaten streak in the Central Wimmera Tennis Association pennant competition remains as the league leaders proved too strong for St Michaels in their round 10 matchup on Saturday, December 6.

In Saturday’s other match, Kalkee defeated Horsham Lawn via forfeit. 

Playing at Central Park, the home side defeated St Michaels 13-1. 

Central Park started the day well, winning the opening four doubles rubbers. 

Harry Allan and Frazer Shurdington defeated Eli Bailey and Archer Reading 8-3, Willow Sainsbury and Sienna Nitschke defeated Mia Rees and Kassie Peachey 8-3, Matt Jones and Brendan Nitschke overcame Peter Hayes and Chris Ellis 8-3, and Adele Joseph and Tara McIntyre defeated Violet McGennisken and Ayva Robertson 8-0. 

Central Park remained unbeaten through the singles rubbers, as Harry Allan defeated Eli Bailey 8-4, Matt Jones defeated Peter Hayes 8-3, Willow Sainsbury defeated Mia Rees 8-2, and Adele Joseph defeated Violet McGennisken 8-1. 

In the remaining doubles matches, Archer Reading and Chris Ellis got St Michaels’ solitary rubber win for the day as they overcame Frazer Shurdington and Brendan Nitschke 8-7. 

Central Park would take out the last five rubbers, as Sienna Nitschke and Tara McIntyre defeated Kassie Peachey and Ayva Robertson 8-3, Harry Allan and Brendan Nitschke defeated Eli Bailey and Chris Ellis 8-3, Willow Sainsbury and Tara McIntyre defeated Mia Rees and Ayva Robertson 8-4, Matt Jones and Frazer Shurdington overcame Peter Hayes and Archer Reading 8-5, and Adele Joseph and Sienna Nitschke defeated Violet McGennisken and Kassie Peachey 8-5.

Among the other grades, a top of the table clash played out between league leaders Central Park and second-placed Laharum in B special. Laharum handed Central Park their second loss of the season, narrowing the gap between the sides.
