Central Park remain undefeated

Central Park continued their dominant season on Saturday, February 7, with a 9-5 victory over St Michaels in round 13 of the Central Wimmera Tennis Association pennant competition.

In Saturday’s other clash, Horsham Lawn defeated Kalkee 10-4. 

Playing at St Michaels, Central Park got an early 3-1 set lead in the first round of doubles fixtures.

Willow Sainsbury and Sienna Nitschke defeated Mia Rees and Kassie Peachey 8-3, Adele Joseph and Tara McIntyre defeated Violet McGennisken and Barb Crough 8-2, and Frazer Shurdington and Brendan Nitschke defeated Eli Bailey and Archer Reading 8-6, while for St Michaels, Steve Schultz and Peter Hayes just edged out Matt Jones and Reece Harman 8-7. 

There was an even split in the four singles rubbers. 

For St Michaels, Steve Schultz defeated Matt Jones 8-4, and Eli Bailey overcame Frazer Shurdington 8-5. 

For Central Park, Willow Sainsbury defeated Mia Rees 8-3, and Adele Joseph defeated Violet McGennisken 8-3. 

Central Park then won four out of the final six doubles rubbers to secure the victory, as Sienna Nitschke and Tara McIntyre defeated Mia Rees and Barb Crough 8-2, Willow Sainsbury and Tara McIntyre defeated Mia Rees and Barb Crough 8-2, Adele Joseph and Sienna Nitschke defeated Violet McGennisken and Kassie Peachey 8-2, and Matt Jones and Brendan Nitschke defeated Jack and Archer Reading 8-3. 

For St Michaels, Peter Hayes and Archer Reading overcame Reece Harman and Brendan Nitschke 8-6, and Eli Bailey and Peter Hayes defeated Frazer Shurdington and Reece Harman 8-2. 

At Kalkee, Horsham Lawn got a 3-1 lead after the first round of doubles, as Jae McGrath and Lachlan Punchard defeated Jordan Friberg and Aiden Richardson 8-5, Lydi Boyd and Cherie Wood defeated Meaghan Pohlner 8-0 and Keeley Schultz, and Sienna Wood and Daniella Gillespie overcame Anna Exell and Debbie Lawson 8-4, while for Kalkee, Jeff Friberg and Grant Schultz defeated August Koch and Graeme Wood 8-2. 

The four singles rubbers went 2-2.

For Kalkee, Jeff Friberg defeated August Koch 8-1, and Anna Exell won 8-0 over Sienna Wood, while for Horsham Lawn, Jae McGrath overcame Jordan Friberg 8-6, and Lydi Boyd defeated Meaghan Pohlner 8-1. 

Horsham Lawn then proceeded to win all but one of the remaining six doubles fixtures.

Lachlan Punchard and Graeme Wood just defeated Aiden Richardson and Grant Schultz 8-6, Jae McGrath and Graeme Wood overcame Jordan Friberg and Grant Schultz 8-6, Cherie Wood and Daniella Gillespie defeated Keeley Schultz and Debbie Lawson 8-2, Lydi Boyd and Daniella Gillespie defeated Meaghan Pohlner and Debbie Lawson 8-3, and Sienna and Cherie Wood defeated Anna Exell and Keeley Schultz 8-2.

For Kalkee, Jeff Friberg and Aiden Richardson defeated August Koch and Lachlan Punchard 8-5.
