City defeat Golf in thriller

Horsham City handed Horsham Golf their first defeat of the season in round seven of the Wimmera lawn bowls division one pennant competition on Saturday, November 15.

Among other contests, Dimboola defeated Goroke Edenhope, Nhill defeated Kaniva, and Coughlin Park overcame Sunnyside.

Just one shot separated Horsham City and Horsham Golf as the two sides played out a 74-73 thriller at Horsham City Golf Club.

The home side’s rink one team of Colin Morrell, Duncan Bottoms, John Burchell and skipper Bruce Campbell defeated Horsham Golf’s team of Ross Barnett, Stephen Harris and Geoffrey Bald, skippered by Ash Batchelor, 24-21. 

Horsham Golf won rink two 24-22, as the team of Hayden Tucker, Denis Ballinger, Graeme O’Connor and skipper Gavin Walter defeated City’s team of William Hogan, Ron Hallam and Graham McDonald, skippered by Ron Dolby. 

Rink three resulted in a 28-28 draw between Horsham City’s Douglas Mitchell, John Lehmann, Kevin Smith and skipper Kevin Clyne, and Horsham Golf’s team of Adam Galpin, Ken McClelland, Danny Schmidt and skipper Bradley Robinson. 

Playing at home, Dimboola won all three rinks as they defeated Goroke Edenhope 92-55. 

The home side’s team of Judith Albrecht, Robert Pyers and Joshua Cook, skippered by Daniel Danisch, beat Goroke Edenhope’s team of John Moloney, Joel Lowe and Richard Smith, skippered by Geoff Lowe, 33-22 to take out rink one. 

Dimboola’s rink two team of Darryl Argall, Shannon Williams, Darryl Both and skipper Peter O’Loughlin defeated the visitors’ team of Alan O’Bryan, Travis Crawford, Terry Exell and skipper Hugh Caldow 34-16. 

Dimboola’s rink three team of Greg Cook, Wayne Albrecht and Don Connors, skippered by Alan Krahe, defeated Goroke Edenhope’s Craig Smith, Wayne Caldow and Bruce Ackland, skippered by Philip Robinson, 25-17 to complete the sweep. 

Coughlin Park proved too good as they beat Sunnyside 90-56.

Playing away, Sunnyside’s rink one team of Lane Hyde, Nigel Zanker and Stuart Cowan, skippered by John Ackland, recorded a 25-23 victory over Coughlin Park’s team of Damian Bryan, Timothy Nihill and Peter Beasley, skippered by Craig Decker. 

The home side won rink two 37-16 as the team of Terry Sartori, Allan Thompson, Rowan Hawkins and skipper Michael Ellis defeated Sunnyside’s Paul Southcott, Jillian Coutts, and Roger MacInnes, skippered by Chris Trotter. 

Coughlin Park’s rink three team of Vincent Antonucci, Mark Schumann, Robin Shaw and skipper Charles Officer defeated Rod Skurrie, Barry McIntyre, Rex Bergen and skipper Dale McRae to secure the overall victory. 

At Nhill, the home side comfortably defeated Kaniva 102-43.

Rink one saw Nhill’s team of Ray Olney, Barry Cramer and Ivan Reichelt, skippered by Allan King, defeated Kaniva’s team of Russell Crouch, Steve Duthie, Janet Kuchel and skipper Adrian Coad, 40-9. 

The home side won rink two 30-14, as Nicholas Robins, Greg Ryan, Roger Brown and skipper Darren Gebert defeated Kaniva’s Darren Maddern, Lorraine Coad and Tyler Cooper, skippered by Bruce Dodson. 

Nhill’s rink three team of Matthew Morrison, Brad Blackwood, Ryder Byrnes and skipper Kevin Jones defeated Kaniva’s team of Paul Pearson, Timothy Meyer, and Malcolm Coutts, skippered by Jeffrey Meyer, 32-20. 

After seven rounds, Horsham Golf are on top of the ladder, followed by Horsham City, while Dimboola and Nhill round out the top four. 

In division two, Horsham Golf continued their unbeaten start with a 124-41 win over Goroke Edenhope, while Dimboola just overcame Horsham City 73-71, Natimuk defeated Coughlin Park 74-65, and Nhill defeated Sunnyside 85-60. 

In division three, Nhill three defeated Sunnyside 70-52 to remain on top of the competition, Kaniva overcame Nhill four 68-50, Coughlin Park three beat Coughlin Park four 79-45, and Horsham City defeated Horsham Golf 65-43.
