Close contests in round two
On Monday, May 12, Round 2 of the Horsham Badminton Association’s Winter Competition delivered high-energy rallies and tightly contested matches across both A and B Grade divisions.

B Grade
Volley vs Clear Shot
In B Grade, Volley claimed a 5 sets to 2 win over Clear Shot.
The standout performers of the match from Volley were Whitney O’Sullivan, Noime Powell and Casey Westmoreland.
Clear Shot’s Mark Ngo and Alvin Chong won the first set, but their team failed to convert the remaining sets into wins.
Mark Ngoi also won his single set against Whitney by 21-15 and 21-8.
RESULT: Volley defeated Clear Shot 5 sets to 2, 10 games to 5 and 286 points to 250.
Drive vs Smash
The Smash actually smashed Drive in the second B Grade fixture, winning 4 sets to 3, but Drive dominated the scorecard with 311 points to 270.
Drive’s Tojo Joseph led the charge with multiple wins, including a solid 21-10 and 21-4 victory against Phoebe Whittaker in the singles.
Smash’s won four of their six doubles to claim the victory, with standout performances from Harry Foster and Aden Merrett. Harry won three doubles, while Aden won two for his team.
RESULT: Smash defeated Drive by 4 sets to 3,9 games to 8, and 311 points to 270.
A Grade
Ace Avengers vs Racquet Rebels
In the Round 2 game, Racquet Rebels overpowered 5 Ace Avengers in a 6 sets to 4 result.
Rebels racked up a 455 to 398 point win, thanks to strong showings from Josh Dunn, Johnny Joseph, and Rinu. The Avengers fought back with big wins from Sammy Das and Paul Paterson but couldn’t close the gap.
RESULT: Rebels defeated Avengers by 6 sets to 4, 13 ganes to 11, and 455 points to 398.
Shuttle Shifter vs Smash Stars
Meanwhile, Shuttle Shifters downed Smash Stars by 6 sets to 4 in another A Grade clash.
Wajahat Ali and Paul Robertson were pivotal, securing early dominance and maintaining pressure.
Wajahat Ali won all his games of the match, including three doubles and one singles, Stars lost by 10 games to 12.
Shifter Daniel Aitken won three of his doubles to increase the lead against the Stars.
There were impressive plays from Subin Mathews and Ajimon Paul, who played a vital role in the win.
RESULT: Shuttle Shifters defeated Smash Stars by 6 sets to 4, 12 games to 10, and 380 points each.
