CEO Tammy Smith has been approached by community members enquiring about reducing the speed limit as a further public safety measure in the main shopping precinct.

Wombat crossings were installed in early 2024 with flashing lights installed later in November.

Deputy mayor Andrew McLean said he was concerned about reducing the speed limit.

"We have speed humps there now and they're meant to slow people down," he said.

"In my opinion we don't need both."

Councillor Karly Kirk agreed with Cr McLean as she posed the question "is it necessary?"

"It would be interesting to see if the majority of our community wants it as opposed to just a couple that assuming it would happen," she said.

During the meeting councillors unanimously carried the recommended motion to conduct a community consultation process.

If the consultation process receives majority support, an application and implementation process will begin as well as a community education process regarding the change in speed.
