Following a request from Dimboola Primary School, the $150,000 project will be split into a co-contribution with $75,000 from grant funding and $75,000 from council, if the application is successful.

Moved by Cr James Barry and seconded by Cr Chan Uoy, the Dimboola representatives both expressed how the crossing is needed.

"Around anywhere where the kids are and that amount of traffic, I think it's required," Cr Barry said.

Cr Uoy said that with the recycling facilities also located on the same street, the road gets busy.

"I'm quite surprised by the figures, it's quite high up there in terms of the amount of cars that are using the street," he said.

A recent traffic study in Hindmarsh Street suggested that the street has more than 450 vehicle movements per day.

The maximum speed measured during the count was 90.7 km/h, and at least 55 per cent of vehicles were travelling at speeds higher than the posted speed of 40 km/h.

The data from the study strongly indicates that the introduction of a raised pedestrian crossing will improve the safety of pedestrians using the crossing through a necessary reduction in the speed of oncoming traffic.

If the application is successful, the council contribution will be budgeted for in the 2026/27 financial year, with the expected completion of the project scheduled for June 2027.
