Covid data released today has revealed a significant rise in the number of positive cases in the Wimmera and Mallee region.
The Victorian government is once again updating Covid numbers on a daily basis to make sure everyone's aware of the surge.
Horsham saw 54 new Covid cases in the seven days prior to November 18, while Northern Grampians faced 26, Hindmarsh 22, Yarriambiack 15, Buloke 11, and West Wimmera dealt with 21.
There is now a total of 131 active cases across those shires.
Horsham is also leading in the daily data's race with 13 cases overnight. Yarriambiack, Buloke and West Wimmera had two new cases each, while Hindmarsh only had one.
Last week, Lister House Medical Clinic respiratory clinic nurse Amanda Wilson said she believes people are getting complacent with standard Covid procedures.
“We’ve definitely seen an increase in positive Covid cases but we’ve also seen an increase in a lot of viruses, such as Rhinovirus or your common cold, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Influenza, and the viruses linked to Gastro,” she said.
“I don’t think people realise how many viruses are out there. The number of mask handouts we’ve been doing at the clinic is insane. People still don’t bring them to the appointments when they’re asked to, and they don’t realise it’s a social responsibility. If a doctor at Lister House gets Covid that’s 250 people we have to cancel appointments for.
“It doesn’t matter what the title of the virus is; if you’re unwell, you need to get seen and you need to be isolated. I also don’t believe people are testing themselves as much as they should be with Rapid Antigen Tests, and they’re not reporting like they used to.
“It’s important that people continue to report to their GP clinics. Clinics need to know what their demographic is. If there are no stats, there won’t be any services allocated to that community.”
People seeking a COVID test or more information can contact the vaccine clinic at Lister House Medical Group on 0458 969 778 or visit the clinic between 8am-3pm on weekdays or 10am-12pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Victoria has reported 20,398 new Covid cases this week. The average daily new cases was week was 2,914, compared to 2,377 last week- a 22.8 percent increase in the past seven days.
