Demons keep slim finals hopes alive

Needing a big outright win against the Colts to keep their finals chances alive, Laharum has given themselves every opportunity and is in the box seat after day one at Cameron Oval in round 12 of the Horsham Cricket Association.

After losing the toss and getting sent into bat, the Demons went berserk, with Ben Peucker scoring 76 (82) and Harrison Hoffmann scoring 73 (49) as they were bowled out for 269 after 47 overs.

Harrison Millar was the pick of the Colts bowlers with 3/45 (8)

Demons captain Josh Mahoney then ripped through the Colts batting lineup, taking all five wickets to have the Colts reeling at 5/53 off 25 overs.

Next Saturday, Laharum will try bowling them out cheaply, adding more runs, and aiming for a huge win.

The Bullants are one point and percentage ahead of Laharum. They are also in a strong position in their match against the Homers at Noradjuha Recreation Reserve.

After losing the toss and bowling, the Bullants bowled the Homers out for 93 in the 59th over with Austin Smith the star, taking 5/22 off 17.4 overs, including eight maidens. Justtin Combe, 4/11 (15) was also sensational.

Chaminda Gamage top-scored for the Homers with 21.

The Bullants ended the day at 1/38, 55 runs behind, with Jamie Byrne and Austin Smith both unbeaten on four and two, respectively, after Justtin Combe made 25, trapped in front LBW by Chaminda Gamage. Gamage has figures of 1/3 (1).

At Coughlin Park, the Horsham Saints have a lot of work to do. At the end of day one, they trailed by 229 runs against the West Wimmera Warriors.

After winning the toss and batting, the Warriors scored 270 off 57 overs, with Jobe Dickinson scoring 56 (66). It was a well-rounded batting performance by the Warriors, who had three other players score over 30 runs.

Jono Carroll, 3/34 (11), and Dezi Carter, 3/73 (16), were the Saints' best bowlers.

In reply, the Saints are 1/41 with Gary Davidson and Dezi Carter unbeaten on 24 and 16, respectively, after Mitch Dahlenburg caught Matt Currill off the bowling of Nathan Alexander for a duck. Alexander's figures are 1/19 (8).

In the final match at Murtoa Recreation Reserve, Lubeck Murtoa trails by 160 runs after bowling the Tigers out for 203 in 60 overs.

The Tigers won the toss and elected to bat, and despite a rare duck by Angus Adams, who has been the best player in the competition all season, the Tigers put up over 200 runs thanks to Martyn Knight and David Puls, scoring 73 and 66, respectively.

Cameron Newell, 4/47 (13), was the pick of the bowlers for the Mudlarks.

In reply, the Mudlarks are 2/43, with Shannon Reddie and Joshua Hedt unbeaten on 14 and four, respectively.

David Puls 1/11 (4) and Dom Rose 1/13 (4) are the wicket-takers for the Tigers.

HUDSON FALLS SHORT OF ANOTHER CENTURY

In round 11 of the Horsham Cricket Association B-grade competition, Rupanyup/Minyip Panthers' opening batsman Brent Hudson fell 10 runs short of a second consecutive century, leading the Panthers to a score of 8/218 at Minyip Recreation Reserve against the Colts.

Hudson hit 90 (136) in an innings that featured 12 fours and five sixes. Hugh Weidemann was solid at the top of the order with 31 (102), while Leigh Funcke also contributed well with 28 (58).

Beau Purchase was the star bowler for the Colts, picking up 5/39 (21) with nine maidens in an excellent bowling performance.

At Horsham City Oval, the game between the Bullants and Horsham Saints is evenly poised, with the Saints trailing by 106 runs at the end of day one.

After winning the toss and batting, the Bullants were bowled out for 141 in the 43rd over, with Chase Whelan scoring 44 (55).

Daniel Bell was the pick of the Saints bowlers with 3/25 (7).

In reply, the Saints are 2/35, with Alan Dube and Cody Keddie unbeaten on 12 and zero, respectively.

David Pike and Sarmad Saif both scored nine apiece. Riley Lane 1/11 (7) and John Heard 1/0 (2) are the wicket-takers for the Bullants.

At Dimboola Road Oval, BrimKSH will look to get their second positive result of the season, trailing the Tigers by 160 runs.

After winning the toss and batting, the Eagles bowled the Tigers out for 162 in the 56th over, thanks to two brilliant spells from Connor McGinniss, 3/30 (15) and Sam Tickner, 3/17 (6).

Dale Dridan top-scored for the Tigers with 42 (74).

In reply, the Eagles are 0/2 with Jack Hadley and Mark Williams at the crease.

DEMONS LEAP INTO SECOND

Laharum has defeated West Wimmera Warriors at Davis Park and leapfrogged them into second place following a three-wicket win in round 14 of the Horsham Cricket Association C-grade competition.

The Demons won the toss and sent the Warriors into bat and bowled them out for 120 in the 38th over with Daryl Scollary 3/8 (3.4), Lewis Hofmaier 2/9 (5) and Archie Watt 2/5 (5) doing the damage with the ball.

Glen Treverton top scored for the Warriors with 41 off 53 balls.

Despite losing three early wickets, Josh Hutchinson's 50 (72) helped lead them to 7/124 in the 37th over.

At Natimuk Recreation Reserve, Natimuk enjoyed their biggest win of the year, defeating Lubeck Murtoa by 128 runs.

After winning the toss and batting, Tyler Coutts 37 (55) and Lachlan Hutchinson 24 (16) helped lead the Rams to 10/184.

In reply, the Rams bowled the Mudlarks out for 56 in the 26th over with an even bowling performance, with Lachlan Hutchinson 2/6 (6), Hunter Schmidt 2/14 (4) and Sam Peachey 2/18 (7) all bowling well.

Phillip Yew top-scored for the Mudlarks with 10.

At Dudley Cornell Park, the Tigers defeated the Homers by 55 runs.

After losing the toss and being sent into bat, the Tigers made 6/205, with Charlie Millar top scoring with 51 off 48 balls in blistering innings, which included ten fours and one six.

Charlie Hopper 2/36 (5) and Jack Arnel 2/22 (4) were the best bowlers for the Homers.

In reply, the Homers were bowled out for 150 in the 37th over, with Matt Arnel top-scoring with 50.

Angelo Wijeratne 2/32 (7) and Frank Marklew 2/10 (4.2) were the best bowlers for the Tigers.
