Dimboola dominant in win
Dimboola recorded a dominant victory over Nhill in round four of the Wimmera Football Netball League, with the final score 19.8 (122) to 7.6 (48).
However, despite the win, Dimboola still trails Nhill on the ladder, with the sides sitting fifth and fourth, respectively.
Dimboola extended its lead at every break, up 13 points at the end of the first quarter, 24 points at half-time, and 44 points heading into the final quarter.
Coach of Dimboola, Dean Toet, said he was happy with the win and particularly with the efforts of Jackson Calder in the forward line, who booted nine majors.
Other better players for Dimboola were Dylan Landt and Jonathon Ross, while for the losing side, Daniel Batson and coach Jake McQueen were in form, with McQueen the leading goal scorer for Nhill with three goals.
Toet chalked the win up to his side's pressure, along with the fact Dimboola didn't have any passengers and played four quarters of footy.
The coach did think the game was going to be a lot tighter so it was a pleasant surprise to bank the 74-point win.
"We haven't hit our straps yet, and Saturday was the first time we actually gelled as a team," Toet said.
"It's always going to take time with players who are travelling and things like that.
"I think our win against Saints (the previous week), we scrapped and fought hard to get the win, but things really came into place on Saturday."
Toet acknowledged his "back six" in the win against Nhill but said credit also needed to be given to their mids.
"Their pressure limits the flow of the ball coming in," he said.
"But we didn't have any passengers, and Ben Miller was again great, Andrew Moore, Dyl Landt – I could go on and on – Jacko Calder for kicking nine.
"Everyone played their role, and that's why the result was so impressive."
Toet said they were lucky to have a forward like Calder, describing him as "brilliant".
"We've been lucky to have him," Toet said.
"He normally gets double-teamed and we've been a bit one-dimensional in the past going to him.
"With Ben Brett going down forward, those two are working well together, and that's probably taken the focus off him (Calder) a bit.
"But Nhill were a smaller backline, so we knew if we got the footy in quickly to him, they were going to have trouble defending him because he's 6'3", 6'4" and he's got a big reach on him."
DImboola come up against the Demons this Saturday, and Toet said despite the fact the Horsham side haven't claimed a win yet, Dimboola weren't taking them lightly.
"We're taking each game as it comes and we'll reset and focus on that game this week," Toet said on Monday.
"The Demons are an inexperienced and young side who like to move the ball quickly, and they have a lot of quick runners, so we will need to be mindful of that."
