Disposable nappies a boost for the bottom line

Keeping the Wimmera Mallee's youngest bot-bots clean and dry is dear to the heart of one local MP.

Member for Lowan and deputy leader of The Nationals, Emma Kealy, is vocal in sharing her support for The Nappy Collective.

The politician has been supporting the project since 2017 and said she was proud to have her Horsham office serve as a drop-off point for unused disposable nappies.

Ms Kealy said the organisation had been the driving force behind thousands of nappies being donated to local families in need, keeping local babies' and toddlers' heinies fresh as a daisy.

“It’s wonderful to see donations come in for such a great cause,” she said.

“I'm proud that over 3000 unused nappies have been collected through my office and distributed locally by the Christian Emergency Food Centre to support victims of domestic violence and young families in need."

Nappy Collective chief executive Sarah Witty said demand had doubled in only 12 months.

"The current need is the highest in our 10-year history," Ms Witty said.

“There are many families who have been on the margins and a sharp rent increase or higher costs at the supermarket have pushed them across the poverty line.

“For the first time ever they're asking for help.”
