The Warracknabeal Herald office on Scott Street is a drop off location for Lids4Kids Victoria.

We collect the lids, take them to Horsham Rotary who then deliver them to Lids4Kids in Ballarat.

What happens to the lids?

● Clean lids are dropped off by the public.

● Volunteers sort the lids into 17 different colours and remove any contaminants.

● Lids are sorted by polymer (plastic type). We use types 2, 4 and 5 which are non-toxic for step five. This is done three times for purity.

● Lids are shredded into small flakes. This raw material (shred) can now be recycled.

● New products are made - the shred is melted and shaped into 100 per cent recycled and

recyclable items by volunteers or businesses.

We accept lids from water bottles, soft drink bottles and milk bottles.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept dirty or wet lids, lids with inserts, multi-coloured lids, spice/medicine/spread jar lids, lids larger than a credit card (eg. Vegemite or peanut butter lids) or smaller than a 10 cent piece (eg. sushi fish)

Please wash your lids.

Remove the inserts inside the lids, wash the lids with warm soapy water and dry the lids completely.

Lids4Kids Australia was founded as a grass-roots 100 per cent volunteer project in May 2019 by Tim Miller.

When Tim asked about where to drop off his thousands of plastic bottle lids, he was advised that any piece of plastic smaller than a credit card can’t be recycled and had to go to landfill.

Tim’s passion for the environment led him to Envision, a Victorian based not-for-profit who have many community projects supporting disadvantaged people and those with a disability.

Envision turns plastic bottle lids into mobility aids for children.

Tim decided to create Lids4Kids to help collect more lids.

Lids4Kids has been a fantastic success story with the 250,000 lid collection target achieved within weeks of the charity starting and after several months over five million lids had been donated to Envision who are now producing many other recycled plastic products such as park benches, kitchen splashbacks and cubby house roof tiles.

Lids4Kids also partners with many other recycling plastic manufacturers to repurpose lids into any sustainable recycled plastic products.
