Dynette and Flic: Rainbow's most wholesome commute
At 73 years old, Rainbow local Dynette Sanderson is turning heads and warming hearts with her daily commute into town on horseback.
Ms Sanderson and her beloved horse ‘Flic’ make the three-kilometre journey into Rainbow up to four times a week to grab groceries, visit the kindergarten, or stop by the hospital, where Flic is a much-loved guest.
“It gives her exercise,” she said.
“It’s my mode of transport.
“The kids love to see her and have a ride.”
Flic has become a celebrity in town, with local children often lining up for pats, feeding her, and occasionally having a ride.
“I like the kids, too,” Ms Sanderson shared.
“I don’t like them to be frightened.”
Flic has become something of a community ambassador, visiting kindergartens and even the local hospital.
“She goes to the kindergarten and they pet her,” she said.
“She goes up to the hospital and they let her in the garden area – she goes half in there, so that those that can’t get up can still give her a pat.”
Originally from a background rich in equestrian sports, Ms Sanderson once show jumped and played polo.
“I’ve had a lot of horses over the years,” she said.
“But age’s caught up with me now — it’s just Flic and I.”
When asked for the community message, Ms Sanderson chuckled and said, “There’s always plenty of manure for your garden — anytime you want to come and pick it up.”
