Eagles look to keep finals hopes alive

While it is mathematically possible for Warrack Eagles to make finals, it's imperative they put their best foot forward each week, and that begins this Saturday, against Horsham.

The Eagles are 12 points, or three wins, behind the fifth-placed Thunder with just four matches remaining in the season, including this week.

The Demons, given they have a break coming up next round, are out of contention for finals.

For Eagles coach Kyle George, the equation is simple.

"We need to beat everyone we did in the first round and steal one somewhere, so the Demons match is important to us this week."

Last time the sides played was in round six, and it was a close game, with the Eagles eventually prevailing by just a point.

The final result came against the flow, with the Horsham side having led at the end of the first quarter (four points), at half-time (nine points) and heading into the final quarter (16 points).

In that game, Ethan Worthy and Rhys Barber led the way for the losing side, while Jackson Taurau and Ned Grieve were the better players for the winners.

George said his side was excited for the game, especially given they played well against Ararat last week.

"A fast start is important," George said.

"Our midfield has an important role early to get on top."

George said his side would be keeping a close eye on Demons vice-captain Tyler Blake, who had been among the best players in five of his 13 games this season, and would look to curb his impact on the match.

"He sets a lot up for them," George said.

"We need to win the ruck; that's important.

“They are young and quick, so being mindful of that and not turning the ball over."
