Eagles take flight at Dimboola
The Eagles are flying high after a dominant victory over Dimboola last week, but this week they have the daunting task of facing defending premiers Ararat.
Eagles coach Kyle George didn't beat around the bush when chatting to Wimmera Mallee News ahead of the clash on Saturday.
"It'd be great if Taylor (Ben), Willo (Tom Williamson), Griffin (Brody) and Ganley (Harry) had stinkers," George laughed.
It's no secret Ararat are a polished side, and George said this week it was going to be all about pressure if his charges were going to come out on top.
"We need to have a go at getting on top of their midfielders," George said.
"The boys will also all need to play their part really, play contested footy and win our chances."
Led by Tom Williamson, Ararat dropped their first match of the season against Stawell before redeeming themself against Dimboola, 28.13 (181) to 4.1 (25).
Ararat are currently fifth on the ladder while Warrack are sixth.
The clash comes at as good of a time as any, with the Eagles soaring after their big win against Dimboola last week, 27.18 (180) to 2.4 (16).
In that match, Dimboola's only majors came in the second and fourth quarters, while the Eagles kept the score ticking over with four goals in the first quarter, seven in the second, five in third and 11 in the final term.
George was a happy man after the win.
"It was an awesome win – one we needed," he said.
When asked how long it had been since the Eagles recorded such a dominant victory, he said it had been years.
"The boys are exhausted but it was great to get a win," George said.
"We played four quarters – something we haven't done well this year – and we got stronger as the game went on."
It would have been easy for the Eagles players to take their foot off the pedal, given the lead heading into the last quarter, but they added another 11 goals to the tally and the coach said to see that continued effort was "unreal".
Moore and Jackson O'Neill battled hard all day for Dimboola and were best on ground, while the victors were led well by Nicholas Lehman and Samuel Callins.
Brayden Culhane was the only goal kicker for Dimboola, while Connor McFayden and Lehman found the big sticks seven times each for Warrack.
