People could run or walk around the lake, with some players doing five laps, which equated to 5.5km.

Club President Elizabeth Kealy said the club has been affected by MND in recent years.

"We have had many people recently affected within the club, whether it's a direct family member or someone in their family or close friends, so we thought we would go out there and support this," Kealy said.

"When you raise awareness, many people come out and support it as they know someone affected by MND."

Kealy was thrilled with the money raised, with the total currently $5100.

"The target was $1000, but we reached that quickly, so we raised the bar to $5000, and we hit it during the week with donations and registration," Kealy said.

"We had roughly 40 people participate in the laps, and you could do as little or as much as you wanted. Some ran five laps, others walked one, two, three or four, and it was great to see and would be interesting to see how many laps were completed collectively as a group."

Community members from outside the club also participated, and despite not advertising it much, Kealy thought it was a great outcome.

"We had about 10 from outside the club participate, and we were a bit delayed in getting the advertising out there," Kealy said.

"Later in the year, we might do something, but we also have our Pink Day in May, which raises money for Breast Cancer, which gets a lot of people involved.

"The feedback was excellent. Everyone appreciated the work we are doing to get funds to go back into these causes, and we had people come down and have a look."

"For causes like this, sporting clubs are good to show a system of support as there are many illnesses for which we need to raise money."
