End of an era as Esoteric Festival enters Voluntary Administration
The future of the Esoteric Festival remains uncertain following its parent company's entry into administration earlier this month.
The announcement followed the last-minute cancellation of the 2025 event after its application for a Place of Public Entertainment Occupancy Permit was rejected by a state-appointed municipal building surveyor.
Festival cofounder Sam Goldsmith, in a heartfelt statement, revealed that Esoteric Festival Pty Ltd entered Voluntary Administration on June 11, 2025, with Worrells Solvency and Forensic Accountants appointed as the company administrator.
"With a heavy heart, I must also let you know that the company has now ceased trading," Mr Goldsmith said.
"Worrells has been appointed as the independent Administrator to assess the company's financial position and determine the best path forward."
The multiday festival, a well-known psychedelic music, arts, and lifestyle event, attracts thousands of people to Donald during the Labour Day long weekend.
Despite receiving permission from the Buloke Shire Council, the 2025 event was cancelled on March 6, leaving an estimated 2000 people stranded without accommodation and 8000 seeking ticket refunds.
In a written statement, a Worrells spokesperson said the company hoped to provide the affected community with answers.
"We recognise the disappointment and concern this news will bring to the Esoteric community and thank everyone for their patience as we work through the next steps," the statement said.
"We understand many people will be seeking clarity - particularly ticket holders and supporters of the festival.
"A dedicated FAQ has been provided by Worrells via email and is also available to download from our File Information page."
The spokesperson stated that they were liaising with outside parties to buy or restructure the festival.
A report outlining the festival's financial position would be issued by July 9, 2025.
