Project coordinator and artist Nina Gould said the response exceeded expectations.

“We had about 40 at the opening, and that was really more than I expected and an excellent response,” she said.

“Over the weekend, we probably had another 50 or so, and although Monday and Tuesday were slower due to the weather, overall, more than 100 people visited.”

The exhibition featured a variety of works from local and regional artists, including costumes by Olinda Poulton made from agricultural materials, barbed wire sculptures by Pam Clugston and Lynette McKenzie, and recycled creations by Lynne Gould.

Ms Gould said the quilted banners were very noticeable at the exhibition.

“The highlight was exhibiting people’s work in renewable materials, and presenting the quilted banners to the Shire.”

The banners, designed by Ms Gould and made by the local patchwork group, were presented to the Yarriambiack Shire Council at the opening.

Mayor Kylie Zanker accepted them with gratitude, and they will now be permanently displayed at the Powerhouse Studio.

“She was so grateful and appreciative,” she said.

Visitors came not only from the local area but also from the nearby towns.

“We had a group from the Mildura Embroideries Group, a carload of ladies who came down on the Saturday, and people from Beulah, Warracknabeal, Rainbow and other towns,” Ms Gould said.

In closing, Ms Gould expressed her appreciation.

“Thank you to the community for coming, for the kind donations, and to the patchwork group and the Powerhouse for supporting the project.”
