Falcons fire in strong season-opening wins
The Horsham Falcons kicked off their South West Victorian Football Association season in outstanding style, recording convincing victories in both the Under‑14 and Under‑17 fixtures against Grampians United, to announce themselves as early contenders across the age groups.

Under‑14s: second‑half surge secures win
In the early kick‑off, the Under‑14s were pushed hard in the first half, heading into the break trailing 2–3 after a competitive and fast‑paced opening period.
The response after half‑time was emphatic. Improved structure, sharper ball movement, and increased pressure across the pitch saw the young Falcons overturn the deficit and storm home to a commanding 6–3 win.
Relentless defensive pressure laid the foundation for the turnaround, with quick transitions allowing Horsham’s attackers to exploit space and take control of the contest.
The goals were well shared, with Kaden Thomas netting a brace, while Subal Pandey, Jasper Javier, Arhant Maharjan, and Will Abrahams each added one to cap off an impressive team performance.
Under‑17s: statement victory
The later kick‑off saw the Under‑17s deliver a performance that can only be described as a complete team display.
Racing to a five‑goal lead by half‑time, the Falcons maintained their intensity throughout the second half, adding six more to secure an emphatic 11–0 victory.
The match featured a standout debut from Ajay Bradburn, who announced himself with a dominant four‑goal haul.
William Abrahams continued his strong day, backing up his earlier under‑14s goal with a well‑taken hat‑trick, while Kaden Thomas also found the net again with a composed finish.
Further goals came through a classy brace from Stephen Tatel and a well‑deserved strike from Oluwateniola Ogunoye.
In a performance that showcased depth, discipline, and attacking flair, the under‑17 Falcons have sent an early message to the rest of the competition: they are not here to simply make up the numbers - they intend to contend for the title.
Looking ahead
The Round 1 results place Horsham second on the Under‑14 ladder and top of the Under‑17 standings.
The Falcons now turn their attention to next week’s away trip to Warrnambool, where they will face the Warrnambool Wolves, both of whose sides will be eager to respond after opening‑round defeats.
