Family Fun Day a hit
Rainbow’s Family Fun Day brought laughter, colour and community spirit to the Oasis on Saturday, November 1.

The day was filled with classic games, picnics, and glow-in-the-dark fun organised by the Rainbow Innovation Centre and the Op Shop.
Organiser Belinda Eckermann said the event was a good family day out.
About 40 people attended throughout the day, participating in sack races, three-legged races, and the always-popular egg-and-spoon contests.
“Approximately 40 people attended throughout the day,” she said.
“Whilst numbers were low, those who came enjoyed themselves.
The morning picnic races gave way to a relaxed lunch under the trees before the fun continued with fairy floss, popcorn, and glow-themed crafts.
“This day was put on for the rainbow community to give back to them, so it was not advertised beyond,” Ms Eckermann said.
“However, we did have five from Jeparit come as the two adults volunteer each week at our op shop.”
As the sun went down, families transformed for the Glow Party, donning homemade fluorescent outfits and enjoying face painting, music, and dancing under the stars.
According to Ms Eckermann, watching the kids laughing and parents helping their children was the highlight of the event.
“Egg and spoon race was popular, with more eggs getting dropped the more races we did as they began to run faster,” she said.
“The three legged race was funny and the tug of war was great to watch.
“The children all enjoyed creating their own glow outfits and those who could stay until dark had a blast dancing.
“Kids all loved the glow stick merchandise we handed out.”
The organisers thanked the local community groups for their help, including the Rainbow Lions Club for cooking the BBQ and all the volunteers who helped out.
Don Fisher for helping with the sacs and some eggs; Neighbourhood House for loaning buckets; Rainbow P-12 College for lending us small beanbags; Rainbow Sweets and Josh for providing the fairy floss and popcorn; Sam Smith for face painting; and Shakina Hurlestone for loaning her music player for the glow party.
Ms Eckermann also had a simple message for the community.
"The Innovation Centre and our Op Shop put this event on to give back to the Rainbow Community, and we would like to thank all those who came to the event, and we hope you had a great day," she said.
