The Victorian Government has delivered new NBN Co. towers through its Connecting Victoria program as part of an upgrade from satellite services to fixed wireless technology.

The upgrades allow eligible residents and businesses in Hopetoun East and Woomelang to access download speeds of up to 100 Mbps through their chosen internet provider.

The improved broadband services aim to help local families maintain reliable video calls, allow businesses to compete more effectively online and provide residents with faster access to emergency alerts and potentially life-saving information during floods and fires.

Hopetoun East and Woomelang are among eight regional Victorian communities benefiting from the latest upgrades.

The other communities include Bright, Castella, Cann River, Clunes, Navarre and Warne, with more than 2000 homes and businesses across the eight communities now able to access the upgraded fixed wireless services.

The program includes more than 1300 projects across Victoria, with more than 900 located in regional areas.

Minister for Government Services Ingrid Stitt said the investment demonstrated the government’s support for regional communities.

“Connecting Victoria is the single largest investment in mobile and broadband infrastructure made by any Australian state government – because Labor backs regional Victoria," she said.

Residents and businesses can check their eligibility for fixed wireless services by using the “check your address” function on the NBN Co. website.
