Feedback required on sport and recreation strategy
Following a period of community and stakeholder engagement, Hindmarsh Shire Council has released its Draft Sport and Recreation Strategy 2025-2035 for further public feedback before its formal adoption.
The draft strategy outlines a clear long-term plan to develop and promote sport and recreation across the Shire, focusing on increasing participation, improving facilities and open spaces, supporting community wellbeing, and enhancing opportunities for clubs, volunteers, and residents.
Council’s mayor Ron Ismay said creating opportunities for people to be active is central to building healthy communities.
“Council plays a role, working with sporting clubs, health services, and other agencies, to make sure that no matter what type of physical activity you enjoy, there are opportunities that support your health and wellbeing,” he said.
Key priorities identified in the strategy include increasing participation in sport and recreation, supporting both mental and physical health, improving facilities and open spaces, supporting clubs and volunteers, promoting equity and inclusion, and fostering partnerships and collaboration.
Residents are encouraged to view the draft strategy and share their thoughts via the Have Your Say Hindmarsh website on www.haveyoursay.hindmarsh.vic.gov.au/sport-and-recreation-strategy-2025-2035.
Feedback is open until 12 noon on November 21, and all submissions will help finalise the strategy before it is presented for adoption at the Council Meeting on December 17, 2025.
