History was created at a Statutory Meeting held in the Karkarooc Shire Council Chamber when Councillor Isabel Anderson became the first lady president of the shire.

History was created at a Statutory Meeting held in the Karkarooc Shire Council Chamber when Councillor Isabel Anderson became the first lady president of the shire.
Cr Anderson was sworn in at the meeting and was inducted by outgoing President Cr Herb Edmonds.
Cr Anderson represented the North Riding and became the first lady councillor on December 10, 1983, when she replaced Cr B.J. Robertson.
She was joined by another lady councillor, Cr Genevieve Lehmann of Beulah, representing the South Riding.
The other councillors to be sworn in at the Statutory Meeting for a further term of office were Cr Clarence Huf (West Riding), Cr Ross Boucher (East Riding) and Cr Gavin Marshman (South Riding).
A large crowd attended the meeting and all were quick to congratulate the lady president.
The Karkarooc Shire was constituted in 1896 and was abolished in 1995 as part of a statewide reform program to reduce the number of local government councils from 210 to 78.
The Shire of Yarriambiack was appointed as the successor in law of the Shire of Karkarooc.
