Flower shows make it easy
Flower shows are a good and easy way to inspect and find those plants that might have proved elusive to you in the past.

I went to the Pomonal native flower show on the weekend and it was a great show.
The displays were in terrific order as some familiar species.
None of these flowers were picked in the bush because there were enough garden species growing within a few kilometres of the display centre.
Which is amazing after the number of bushfire attacks over the past few years.
A number of fires took out great swathes of the district and the next fire might get a hold in the small section that was unburnt and there have been huge losses.
The district prides itself on the quality of the gardens and the presentation reflected a high standard.
Halls Gap once held an annual show but ran out of energy after many years.
It takes a lot of folk doing preparation and cleaning up. Many districts have the same problem.
Pomonal show had a native focus with species of indigenous but not necessarily locally grown.
A display like this is a good way for others to study new plants and even talk with the growers about conditions, spacings and requirements before they tried something new.
Most of the native plants are a great option for gardens because they take little time to look after, use less water and put on a wonderful display when they bloom.
Working with flower gardens is kind to the workers as well with colorful plants, smells and habitat for small birds and little lizards. Why would you not do it.
Supported by local based nurseries with a range of their plants for sale this show attracted people from across the vast region.
Many will be inspired to expand the garden space or even give ideas about starting a new area to be improved.
There is nothing like having a blank space that can be designed and laid out right from the start.
Designing a garden can be carried out over months and years so what survives and where to put the vegetables is worked out, a garden should always be treated as a dynamic process.
A celebration of flowers is a good way to spend a bit of time and we can learn so much.
