Friends of Wyperfeld Park turns 50
The Friends of Wyperfeld National Park has turned 50.

The Friends of Wyperfeld were first formed in 1976 by an enthusiastic group of people who saw value in assisting and supporting the work of the Park Rangers.
Since its inception, the group has continued to strengthen and evolve.
“The Friends group has been meeting at Wyperfeld once or twice a year, and always on the King’s Birthday long weekend,” Friends of Wyperfeld secretary, Macy Fuller, said.
The work of the Friends of Wyperfeld group has included collecting seed, planting thousands of Cyprus pine seedlings, keeping several areas free of the weed horehound, the publication of a book about Wyperfeld, production of an award-winning DVD celebrating 100 years of Wyperfeld as a National Park, interpretative signage and more recently an app about, amongst other things, the flora and fauna in the Park.
“The long weekend was an opportunity for people to gather and celebrate the work that the Friends have achieved over the last 50 years,” Ms Fuller said.
The program included a panel discussion on Saturday at the Picnic Shelter in the Wonga campground in Wyperfeld National Park, followed by the birthday cake and the opportunity to catch with or meet the people who have been involved over the years and to have a look at some photos and memorabilia.
