Giants show fight despite loss to Marnoo
The Southern Mallee Giants showed promising signs in a tough outing against Marnoo at the weekend, going down by 101 runs at Marnoo Recreation Reserve in Wilken Group A grade round nine.

After being sent into the field, the Giants were set a challenging task as Marnoo posted
8/238 from their 40 overs.
Despite the total, the Giants’ bowlers competed well throughout the innings and were rewarded with regular wickets.
Jack Flavel led the way with a disciplined opening spell, while Srikanth Reddy Kasaram was effective through the middle overs, breaking key partnerships.
There were also memorable moments for young bowlers Ned Jones and Colt Decker, who both claimed their first senior A grade wickets – a pleasing sign for the Giants as they continue to develop younger talent.
The Giants' wicket-takers were Flavel 2/24 (8 overs), Kasaram 3/39 (8), Castleman 1/53 (8), Colt Decker 1/56 (8) and Ned Jones 1/10 (1).
Chasing 239 for victory, the Giants’ innings was steadied by a solid partnership between Srikanth Reddy Kasaram and Jack Flavel.
Kasaram top-scored with 70 off 60 balls, providing the bulk of the scoring, while Flavel played an important supporting role with a patient 17 off 49 deliveries.
The pair added 86 runs together, giving the Giants a platform after early wickets.
Once the partnership was broken, wickets fell steadily and the run chase became increasingly difficult.
The Giants were eventually dismissed for 137 in the 29th over.
While the result was disappointing, the match provided encouraging signs for the Southern Mallee Giants, with contributions across both innings and valuable experience gained by several younger players as the season progresses.
The Hopetoun Community Hotel award went to Sri Kasaram.
