Gloury, Alexander take out Champion of Champions

Horsham City Bowling Club’s Daniel Gloury and Nhill Bowling Club’s Erin Alexander have been crowned the Wimmera Playing Area’s Champion of Champions for the 2025/26 season.

Hosted by Horsham City Bowling Club from January 23 to January 25, the Champion of Champions pits the winners of each club’s singles championship against each other.

In the men’s event, Gloury defeated Nhill’s Greg Ryan in the final, while Alexander defeated Coughlin Park’s Wendy Sleep in the women’s event. 

In the men’s quarterfinals, Gloury defeated Goroke’s Geoff Lowe 25-21, Kaniva’s Russell Crouch over Sunnyside’s Dale McRae 25-20, Greg Ryan defeated Serviceton’s Ian Tink 25-11, and Edenhope’s Trevor Mulraney defeated Dimboola’s Greg Cook 25-16. 

In the semifinals, Gloury defeated Crouch in a tight 25-22 encounter, while Ryan defeated Mulraney 25-18, before Gloury took out the final 25-15 over Ryan.

In the ladies’ opening round, Kaniva’s Maree Van Kempen defeated Goroke’s Kara Prior 25-14, Sleep defeated Edenhope’s Annoe Osborn 25-6, Alexander defeated Sunnyside’s Norma Hair 25-13, and Dimboola’s Lorraine Ross overcame Serviceton’s Karen Shawcross 25-15.

In the semifinals, Sleep defeated Van Kempen 25-19, and Alexander defeated Ross 25-14. 

Alexander then defeated Sleep 25-11 in the final to take the title after a dominant weekend of bowling. 

The tournament also included a Men’s Novice event, where Dimboola’s David Volte defeated Nhill’s Matthew Morison 21-11.
