Grampians Health to host support sessions

Access to eating disorder support is now available closer to home for the Grampians region, with free community information sessions and carer skills workshops coming to Horsham next week.

In a collaborative initiative, Eating Disorders Victoria and Grampians Health are bringing education and support directly to individuals and families affected by eating disorders.

A workshop for carers and information session will be held in Horsham on May 27 and in Ballarat on May 28 and 29.

“These sessions are about creating understanding, breaking down stigma, and offering practical support to those who need it," Grampians Health Eating Disorder Clinical Nurse Stacey English said.

"Whether you're a concerned parent, friend, or carer, these events offer a safe and informative space to ask questions and connect."

“Our multidisciplinary team at the Eating Disorder Clinic cares for people of all ages across the Grampians region," Chief Operating Officer Ben Kelly said.

“By working alongside Eating Disorders Victoria, we hope these sessions offer reassurance and a sense of connection for anyone navigating the challenges of an eating disorder.

"It’s about making sure people know they are not alone, and that support is available.”

Australians aged over five—approximately 4.45 per cent of the population—are living with an eating disorder.

In Victoria alone, this equates to 286,069 people affected in 2023.

Recent data shows that 27 per cent of eating disorder cases are now among those aged 10–19, nearly double the rate recorded in 2012.

This shift highlights the growing need for early intervention and community-based support, especially for young people and their families.

“The community information session in Horsham or Ballarat still have space so please register.

"The Carer Workshop sessions are filling fast, so let us know you if you are interested.

"If you can’t make it, support is still available – please reach out to Eating Disorders Victoria or the Grampians Health Eating Disorder Clinic for guidance and assistance.”

Horsham sessions will be held at Neighbourhood House, 13-15 Robin Street with the carer skills workshop (carers only) from 9.30am to 1pm.

The community information session will be from 2pm to 3pm.
