The centre’s registered nurse, Renee Brown, said the funding has already gone towards three new pieces of gym equipment, supporting the centre’s focus on healthy living.

“It assists in upgrading our current gym equipment and allows access to many different pieces of equipment,” she said.

The upgrade is designed to enhance the centre’s role in operating its Cardiac and Diabetes Clinic in collaboration with Ballarat Community Health.

Ms Renee said the support helps promote the clinic, which offers tailored training plans under the guidance of an exercise physiologist.

“We currently have 40 memberships,” she said.

“Health literacy and health promotion are key elements in assisting our members, particularly the elderly, to live independently as long as possible.”

Harrow Bush Nursing Centre, Fat Farmers Warracknabeal and the Kaniva and Horsham Neighbourhood Houses are the other four recipients.

The Ballarat Foundation chief executive, Andrew Eales, said the five projects will promote health and wellbeing across the region.

“We’ve heard the voices of the Wimmera community and recognise how tough the past few years have been – through COVID and more recently drought conditions,” he said.

“We are proud to ensure the incredible legacy of community support led by the Wimmera Primary Care Partnership will continue for decades to come through this annual grant program.”

The Wimmera PCP Health and Wellbeing Fund was established in 2024 to continue the legacy of the Primary Care Partnership by supporting community health initiatives across Horsham, West Wimmera, Hindmarsh and Yarriambiack.
