Great start for Beulah in weekend pennant
Saturday, October 3, was the opening day of 2026-27 weekend pennant. While Hopetoun had to wait for its opening round due to the Murtoa Show, further south, the Beulah Bowls Club members had a visit from Warracknabeal Maroon.

Sunshine with a cool breeze welcomed the teams onto the greens for a day where great competition and weather played into the results.
The team of Shanks, Turnbull, Roll and Williams (skip) got away to a 15-shot lead in five ends over the team of Hewitt, Shilling, Edwards and Stronach (skip) before Warrack were able to start to claw back with three straight ends.
That was the closest they would come, with both teams taking three or four ends each until the team break, which came with a brief shower that added another challenge for the teams.
After the break, the teams continued to swap ends, the final score being Beulah 28 to Maroons 14.
The team of Gove, Barling, Forsyth and Edmonds (skip) took on the Maroons team of Goodwin, Keam, Smith and McLean (skip) and got off to a steady start to lead after five ends 6-1.
From that point on, the Warrack team picked up the pace to be only three shots back by the break.
The tea break seemed to invigorate the Beulah team as they went on a tear, picking up 19 shots to Warrack's eight during the second half to take a decisive 32-18 win.
The third team, consisting of the Beulah side of Bell, Williams, Moore and Hallam (skip) taking on the Maroons' Johnson, Steed, Hall and Kerr (skip), started off with a dead end before the sides slowly started swapping ends until the ninth, with Beulah winning the last four of five ends before the break.
After refreshments and another brief shower, the locals went on a great run and by the 25th end had won eight of the last 12 ends for a dominant 22-shot win over Warrack, 37-15.
The total score for the day was Beulah 97-69, giving the Beulah team 16 points for a great start to the 2026-27 season.
