Great start to 2026 for local greyhound trainers
Across the past fortnight, local trainers have fired with ten winners spread from Horsham to Warrnambool.
Paw Saundra, being a standout, won on three occasions for Andrea Gurry (Nhill).
Other trainers who had success for the period were Garry George (Beulah), Heather Baxter (Murtoa), and Paul Hammerstein (Ararat).
Gurry struck at Warrnambool four times for the fortnight, three of those victories were by Paw Saundra over the 390m trip.
Saundra demonstrated her superior class in all three victories, simply a class above.
Genesis Bale was also successful at the ‘bool and was a great story of recovery and persistence.
Gurry has spent the past four months rehabbing the white chaser from injury, and that all paid off as Genesis led from start to finish in the very smart time of 22:03sec.
Garry George led in three victors for the fortnight, with the standout being Patriot Cilla, who was able to strike twice at Horsham, firstly breaking her maiden and then producing a hard-chasing victory to take out her grade seven, posting times of 23:51sec and 23:42sec respectively.
Detriment was also victorious at Horsham, clocking 23:54sec.
Heather Baxter and Molly-Parfett Oliver guided Winning Steps to a hard-fought victory at Horsham over the 410m journey.
Paul Hammerstein has been training winners for fun with litter brothers Is He Lucky and Is He Happy, both striking at Horsham, giving Hammerstein a winning double.
Is He Happy then backed up his good form, taking out a grade five event at Warrnambool on Saturday night.
Newly licensed trainer Katrina Spicer (Warracknabeal) ran third in a heat of the GRV Vicbred 1-4 Win Series with Blue Nitrogen landing a place in last Tuesday’s final.
Although Blue couldn’t take the final out, it was still a great effort to make the race.
Debbie Selleck has recently moved into Pyrenees Lodge Racing Kennels along with her kennel star, Motion Sensor.
Motion Sensor, a former country cups greyhound, has exploded back into form, putting a picket fence of wins beside it’s name all while setting scintillating time standards in all four wins, running 22:74sec (one and a half lengths off track record), 22:90sec, 22:99sec and 23:37sec.
Debbie will be once again aiming at the country cup circuit for talented chaser.
