Green Lake still closed after algae testing
Green Lake remains closed after testing confirmed the lingering presence of toxic blue-green algae first detected in December.

Samples of lake water were taken for laboratory testing earlier this month to determine whether it was safe to resume using the waterway.
The test result was positive.
High levels of blue-green algae can produce toxins that are unsafe for humans, birds and livestock and can harm the environment.
Toxic blooms are common in the warmer months and can be triggered by a combination of nutrients in the water and low water inflows and storage levels, often causing water discolouration in shades of green, red or brown.
Scum sometimes surfaces on the water and an earthy or musty smell can be present.
Council urges anyone who has had contact with the water to wash their affected skin immediately in clean water.
The affected water should not be used for cooking, drinking, washing or showering.
Boiling water infested with blue-green algae does not make it safe to use.
Council staff continue to monitor the lake for the presence of toxic algae and will update the status as required.
