Recognised for her exceptional leadership and selfless volunteer work, Julia has contributed in a way that's left an incredible mark on Horsham and its residents.

As a dedicated leader with Girl Guides Horsham, Julia has become a source of inspiration for her peers.

Known for her cheerful demeanor and readiness to help, she has played a pivotal role in organising activities, planning events and fostering a supportive environment.

“It’s so much fun working with the Girl Guides,” she said.

“Just turning up every week, seeing everyone and having a chat – it’s all fun.”

Beyond her leadership role, Julia has devoted countless hours to volunteering at Vinnies in Horsham.

From pricing and presenting items for sale to welcoming customers and processing transactions, her efforts have been invaluable.

Reflecting on her award, an excited Julia said, “I wasn’t expecting this at all.

“When the mayor, Ian Ross, called to tell me I was so surprised.

“The first thing I did was tell my family and they were very happy for me.”

She humbly attributed her recognition to her work with Girl Guides and Vinnies, adding, “I will continue volunteering and take up any new opportunity to help the Horsham community.”

Julia, who grew up in Dimboola and moved to Horsham seven years ago, has embraced the town as her own.

“I’m very familiar with the town as I used to visit Horsham every now and then,” she said.

“Horsham community is great and helps each other.

"I love spending time in the community.”

Balancing her volunteer work with her part-time job at Woolworths, Julia is also a passionate music enthusiast.

Although she enjoys playing and writing music, her sights are set on a future in teaching – a career she says will allow her to inspire and guide others.

The Australia Day ceremony was a proud moment for Julia’s family, with her parents, grandmother and aunt by her side, along with her fellow Girl Guides.

The celebration was a testament to Julia’s dedication, perseverance and love for her community.
