Helping young readers thrive
FAMILIES with young children are being encouraged to foster a love of books through a new fortnightly storytime program at the Horsham Neighbourhood House.
The Reading and Storytime session, supported by the Horsham Library, is especially designed for children aged two to five and will run from 10-11 am on July 23, August 6 and 20, and September 3 and 17 at the Horsham Neighbourhood House on Robin Street
Horsham Neighbourhood House administration assistant Bobbi Wade said the sessions aim to generate a love of books while allowing families to connect with others in the local community.
“The aim is for parents to attend with their children,” she said.
“Each fortnight, the library will loan books to the Horsham Neighbourhood House. Families will read the book together before children complete a related activity.”
Families will be able to borrow each book for two weeks, then return it and swap it for a new title at the next storytime session.
“It is also a great opportunity for parents to stay, have a cuppa and socialise with other parents while children meet and interact with each other,” Ms Wade said.
The program costs $2 per session and is designed to foster early literacy, imagination, and social connections for local young children and their families.
Alongside the storytime sessions, the Horsham Neighbourhood House also offers a brand new Creative Cuisine cooking program, helping residents develop practical skills while strengthening community ties.
