Hindmarsh backs local events in first round of grants

Two local groups have been awarded funding through the initial round of the 2025/26 Regional Community Events Grant Program, as announced at the recent Hindmarsh Shire Council meeting.

The aim of the funding is to boost community events which celebrate community wellbeing, culture and heritage, boost the economy and increase visitation to the region.

Nhill Silo Heritage Project, for the Nhill Heritage Weekend, and Oasis Rainbow, for the Rainbow Big Sky Festival, were awarded the funding.

Both groups will receive $4000 ($3000 in cash and $1000 in-kind) for their events.

The heritage weekend is being held on October 25 and 26 and will offer a diverse range of attractions and experiences for attendees of all ages.

It'll feature displays of artifacts, exhibits and photographs that tell the story of Nhill's past.

Next year, Oasis Rainbow will host a one-day event that will feature something for everyone, beginning with a market and classes/seminars in the afternoon, where attendees will have the chance to learn from some of the country's finest musicians and songwriters.

Live music will kick off in the afternoon and continue into the evening.

Hindmarsh Shire Council mayor Ron Ismay congratulated all applicants, noting community events play a vital role in bringing people together and attracting visitors to towns.

"They strengthen community connections, support local businesses, and provide a great opportunity to showcase the unique character of our Shire to the wider region," he added.

A second round of Regional Community Event Grants will open early in 2026.
