Hindmarsh Youth Councillors welcomed
Hindmarsh Shire Council has formally welcomed its 2025 youth councillors with a certificate presentation in Dimboola.
After official presentations from Hindmarsh Shire Council CEO Monica Revell and mayor Cr Ron Ismay, two former youth councillors, Marcel Badua and Liam Campbell, were welcomed as guest speakers at the event on February 28.
Marcel and Liam are the 2025 school captains at Dimboola Memorial Secondary College and spoke about the leadership skills they gained in their terms as youth councillors and their commitment to making their community a better place for young people.
Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council is traditionally made up of 13 young people from across the shire, 12 of whom are appointed through an application process and the 13th being an honorary position for the Youth of the Year award recipient.
The Hindmarsh Shire youth councillors for 2025 are Amelia Albrecht, Eliza Clarke, Anora Corbett, Messi Ehdohpaw, Chelsea Elliott, Stanley Foster, Lisa Klee, Georgie McKinnon, Matilda McKinnon, Savior Ner Moo, Ryan Wallace, Lilly Williams and Bailee White.
Youth councillor Georgie said she was grateful to be on the youth council as Hindmarsh was a “caring community that accepts all ideas and people".
Cr Ismay said the future of "our rural communities lies in the hands of our youth".
"By empowering young people through the youth council we're creating opportunities for young people to shape the future of their communities with innovation, passion and resilience," he said.
The youth council has already started the year strongly, supporting the International Women's Day Jeparit Riverbank Fiesta on March 1, where they offered a smoothie bike, free popcorn, face painting and giant games.
“It was great to see the community together enjoying the popcorn and making their own smoothies on the smoothie bike," youth councillor Messi said.
