Historic win for Australia
Murra Warra mixed farmer David Jochinke is celebrating the announcement of Fiona Simson as the World Farmers' Organization's (WFO) new head.
Ms Simson - who preceded Mr Jochinke as National Farmers' Federation (NFF) president - was chosen last week to lead the WFO.
"The NFF nominated Ms Simson, who was subsequently elected at the WFO General Assembly in Rome," he said.
Mr Jochinke is also in Italy to attend the event, along with NFF CEO Tony Mahar.
"This was a significant moment for 'Team Australia'," Mr Jochinke said.
"It’s believed Ms Simson is the first Australian representative to be elected at this level.
“This elevates the NFF’s voice at the table, ensuring Australian farmers will be heard in international conversations on global agricultural policy and how food and fibre are produced in Australia."
